‘You need a body in order to live, idiot. And here, we find only the best of bodies.’ Himitsu said coldly.
‘Then, that’s cruel!’ Yuri exclaimed.
‘Do you want to live, or not?’ Himitsu said. She grabbed his collar and pulled him to the lift.
She pushed the highest button and the lift moved up to the topmost floor.
‘No one will be allowed to come into this lift. If I have been seen by someone, I will have to face the consequences.’ Himitsu whispered.
‘Why? What consequences?’ Yuri asked the girl.
‘I’ll have to be executed. I’m like a bounty hunter, and I haven’t finished my duties at your house. And if I am exposed…’ Himitsu explained. Her porcelain face had turned from radiant, to pale.
‘Duties?’
‘Yes. I haven’t killed all the zombies yet, you know. And if someone other than you have seen me... No, I can’t let them…’
Yuri thought he ought to help her out if a person was to come into the lift. He wanted to help the girl as she had helped him. He racked his brain for ideas, but none came to mind.
They reached the top successfully (Yuri sighed in relief.). She scanned through the wards and found one that had a patient who was on the brink of death.
‘This one.’ Himitsu muttered. Yuri looked into the ward.
‘He looks horrible!’
‘Looks won’t matter. You just need a body. He’s perfect. On the brink of death and with no family members around.’
‘Am I going to look like him?’ Yuri asked anxiously.
‘I’ll help you look like yourself after you get the body. Now go in.’ Himitsu said exasperatedly.
They walked in. Himitsu smashed the electronic devices that would allow nurses to track the ward down.
‘What am I supposed to do now?’ Yuri asked.
‘Just lie down on top of him. You’ll sink in.’ Himitsu said.
Yuri gulped. Himitsu groaned and lifted his foot and laid it where the man’s leg was. She grabbed his arm as he laid his second leg in place. Himitsu laid him down slowly.
She looked at him as he sunk into the body. He gasped.
‘You ok?’ Himitsu asked.
‘I feel taller, and uglier.’ Yuri mumbled. Himitsu frowned.
She raised her hand to his eyes. She covered them and muttered a few spells. When she lifted her hand, he looked like the boy he was before. Himitsu looked at the empty bed. She muttered something under her breath. The man reappeared.
‘What…?’
‘He’s a temporary duplicate. But with a beating heart. And with organs and all. The doctors will find his heart has stopped tomorrow.’ Himitsu said.
‘And they’ll bury “him”?’ Yuri asked.
‘Yes. But he won’t rot. He’ll disappear after a few weeks in the soil.’ Himitsu said hurriedly.
They ran out of the hospital.
‘Where to now?’ Yuri asked.
‘To a nice, secluded jungle. I am too tired to continue to fight.’ Himitsu said.
Himitsu grabbed his collar, whispered a few spells and they were off.
Himitsu landed gracefully on the grassy plain. Yuri, on the other hand, tumbled onto the ground. Himitsu took a step over him and walked to a shady tree.
Yuri sat up and looked at Himitsu, who had her palms raised and her lips were moving soundlessly. A fire erupted from the twigs on the floor.
Yuri sat in front of the fire.
‘What was that language you were screaming in at my home?’
‘They were spells. Not a language.’ Himitsu said, unzipping the top of her cloak. ‘Now, turn around, I’m taking of my cloak.’
Yuri turned around.
‘Could you teach me?’ He asked.
‘If you live as long as I do, then yes.’ Himitsu muttered.
‘What’s that supposed to mean?!’ Yuri exclaimed, abruptly standing up.
Himitsu threw her cloak over her body, treating it like a blanket. She leaned her back on the tree trunk.
‘I don’t know.’ She muttered, curling under her cloak. ‘Anything else you want to ask before I sleep?’
‘Yes.’ Yuri turned back to her. ‘What happened to my family?’
‘They died, and turned into zombies. I don’t know who is behind this.’
‘Why me?’ Yuri asked. The girl turned her turquoise eyes to him.
‘I don’t know.’ She said after awhile. She tore her gaze away and lied down on the grass.
Yuri leaned his back onto the grass.
‘Why don’t you tell me what you were going to do in the lift if someone came?’
Himitsu pursed her lips.
‘I had something in mind.’ She lied. ‘But, since it’s over already, I don’t care.’
Yuri nodded knowingly.
‘You had no clue what you were going to do, right?’ Yuri grinned.
She threw her cloak over herself again and ignored Yuri’s laughter. Yuri turned his back.
What's going to happen tomorrow...? Where is Oka-san? Otou-san? What about Yuki?! They can't have turned into zombies! Thought Yuri.
...Right?
