Himitsu read it and nodded.
‘They’re giving out 5,000 for 1 mad zombie on the loose!’ Himitsu smirked.
‘So?’ Yuri asked.
‘Let’s go!! What do you think!?’ Himitsu said. She reached out for his wrist and pulled him into a bakery, and into a toilet.
‘Wha-’
‘Shut up!’ Himitsu said as she drew a square. ‘Jump in!’
The scene was horrible. They saw a few human bodies, heads ripped out from their necks. Blood flowing endlessly around them.
‘Oh god…’ Yuri muttered as the smell of blood reached his nose.
‘That zombie crossed here. See what happens if we let zombies run loose?’ Himitsu said, unfazed by the bloody environment. Instead, she kicked a body from her way.
‘I’m going to hurl…’ Yuri said, clutching his stomach when he saw a broken arm on the floor. ‘Aren’t you going to hurl too?’
‘I’m used to it. And don’t make any noise. It could still be around. You never know.’
‘I thought you can sense it!’ Yuri said, turning green from keeping his vomit.
‘Not enough for me to sense. I need hordes! I need at least 4 or 5 to sense their presence.’
‘That’s helpful…’ Yuri said, vomiting as quietly as possible. Himitsu groaned.
‘I’m going to walk around.’ She said, ignoring the sick green boy.
‘I’ll come with you!’ He gasped, wiping his mouth with his sleeve.
‘Fine.’ Himitsu said after a moment of silence.
They walked around the bloody scenery. Yuri realized it was a small housing area.
‘There could be survivors…’ Yuri whispered, finally getting over the reek.
‘Yes… And sadly, we’ll have to take her or him with us on that voyage to the HQ…’ Himitsu grumbled.
‘Nothing’s wrong with getting another companion.’ Yuri huddled beside her.
‘Hmmph.’ She grumbled.
She continued to walk around with Yuri. They heard something moving. Yuri turned around swiftly, facing a bush.
‘Halt, who goes there?’ Yuri said pathetically, quoting a line from “Small Soldiers”.
‘Oh, you are pathetic!’ Himitsu stated. She raised her hand and a gust of wind blew the bush.
A turquoise head popped out.
‘Himitsu!’ The girl with turquoise hair grinned.
‘Hikari.’ Himitsu smirked. ‘What’re you doing?’
Hikari stood up and ran her fingers through her turquoise hair.
‘Bounty-hunting.’ She said, as if stating the obvious. There were a few strips of neon green in her hair.
‘You never bounty hunt. You slack! I’ve been taking up every job. I’m tired. Why are you doing this now?’ Himitsu argued.
‘Then, you should be relived I am here take up the job!’ Hikari said, jumping out from the bush. ‘Ah… who’s this?’
‘This is Sato Yuri. He’s the survivor of the mass zombie attack.’ Himitsu explained.
‘Ahh… Looks really handsome, ne?’ Hikari said, staring hard at him, smiling.
‘Oh, shut up.’ Himitsu grumbled at the beaming Yuri.
They continued walking, Yuri holding a big stick.
‘That mad zombie won’t die if you just hit him with that, Hana-chan.’ Himitsu sighed.
‘Oh, let the kid have some fun!’ Hikari laughed.
They walked away, leaving Yuri, grabbing the stick.
‘Fun…?’
He rushed back to their side; they seemed to be talking about the zombies.
‘Hey! I wanna ask something!’
Himitsu turned around.
‘What is it, Hana?’
‘Do zombie attacks happen often?’ He asked, running his hand through his sweaty hair.
‘Yes.’
‘Then why haven’t I heard or read about them in the papers or on TV?’
‘That’s because they never happen in the human realm.’ Himitsu said shortly. Hikari was just staring at him.
‘Then, where are we? And why did the zombies come to my home, in the human realm?!’
‘We are in the Magical realm. These houses… They look normal, like the ones you see in the human realm. But the people are magical beings. Witches, Nymphs, Goblins, Elves, etcetera. This is one of the many Nymph towns.’
‘Oh…’ Yuri muttered. ‘Then what about-’
‘We currently don’t understand why the zombies appeared in the Human realm. It was the first and worst zombie attack in the last 10 years. Clearly, someone killed your family and transfigured them into zombies.’ Himitsu said.
‘You mean caught my family and sent down zombies that resemble them. Those weren’t my family.’ Yuri insisted stubbornly.
‘He thinks that the zombies are just duplicates of his family, and his family is still around, somewhere.’ Himitsu explained briefly.
‘He’s just full of despair he’s lost his family. Let him be, Himitsu.’
Yuri gritted his teeth.
‘My parents are still alive. So is Yuki. They aren’t turned into mindless zombies that we most probably have killed!’
‘Yuri. Face it. Your parents aren’t coming back. They aren’t alive.’ Himitsu said, laying a hesitant hand on his shoulder. He shrugged it off.
‘I’m not going to give up.’ He said, kicking the puddle of blood on the floor. It splattered Himitsu’s cloak hem.
‘I forgive you.’ Himitsu glared at Yuri for a second with her turquoise eyes and turned away swiftly.
Yuri pursed his lips and stared at his bloodstained sneakers. Maybe they were dead… He thought bitterly.
‘Oi! Yu-kun! You following or not?’ Hikari called. He nodded and walked towards them.
A walk around the whole town, and not a sign of the zombie found. Himitsu groaned and pulled out the little paper the bird sent.
‘Why has it changed?’ Yuri realized. Himitsu bit the insides of her cheek.
‘The location of the zombie changes fast. Let’s go.’
